Bovis Homes South West

Fremington

This development of 277 units was a joint venture undertaken by Bovis Homes & Barratt Developments.

There were extensive Section 278 works undertaken at the front of the site by MJL including forming a new signalised junction and access road to the development entrance that were completed in extremely challenging circumstances.

The off-site challenges unfortunately continued when works eventually commenced inside the development as the sites former use as an army camp provided immense challenges in dealing with below ground obstructions and areas requiring careful remediation.

When factoring in an off-site connection into the watercourse requiring careful interaction with the MMO to obtain the necessary consents, it is fair to say, this really was a challenging site well managed by all at MJL.

We anticipate this development will be completed during the latter part of 2019.

Bude

This site of 248 units sits within the popular location of Bude and was the first site undertaken by MJL for Bovis.

The site has been ongoing for a number of years with MJL having maintained steady progress on site to contribute towards a lovely development enjoyed by all.

There is an attractive pond area in the lower half of the site formed by MJL where the surface water from the development collects and a foul pumping station and rising main installed by MJL dealing with the foul discharge.

Whilst the site is now in the latter stages of construction, there is still a large amount of work to complete before the project concludes some time in 2020.

Axminster

This project of 394 units sits on the former Axminster Carpets site and is one of the largest developments of its kind in the area.

The site was not without its challenges including a variety of piled and strip foundation solutions due to differing ground conditions locally.

There were Section 278 works completed outside of the development by MJL and an off-site sewer connection across the adjoining land.

The lower part of the site saw some huge MDPE Attenuation tanks supplied by Assett International and carefully installed by MJL.

There is one further phase of works due to be tendered shortly which MJL would obviously intend continuing with given the opportunity by Bovis Homes.

Hayle

This development of 148 units is located within the rapidly expanding area of Trevassick in Hayle.

MJL worked closely with Bovis Homes through inception in managing the potential issues surrounding contamination, remediation and mitigating surface water run off through the site.

There was also an area of Alluvium within the site requiring careful management and a BAPA to contend with when installing house foundations and soakaways in the area of ground adjoining the railway.

The site also contended with areas of poor or made ground resulting in the need for careful site management and a mixture of foundation solutions including the use of piles and ground beams.

The site is in an advanced state with completion anticipated at the end of 2019.

Ottery St Mary

This project comprised of 165 units set just outside Exeter in the town of Ottery St Mary.

The contract was severely hampered by a large diameter gas main crossing the site that required a watching brief throughout when working in its vicinity. This obviously had significant Health & Safety implications and extensive planning regarding company method statements and risk assessments.

Of further note and to add additional complications, the site was extremely wet as a result of groundwater and required extensive de-watering and silt management to prevent pollution into the nearby water course of the River Otter.

The site is currently well progressed with completion anticipated at the end of 2019.

Bristol

This development of 118 units is set within the popular Charlton Hayes area of Bristol.

Whilst this we believed was on the outer limits for the business geographically, we accepted and embraced the challenge of working in a new area and have delivered the project to the immense satisfaction of our client Bovis Homes.
